A great opportunity for women of all walks of life. Midwives, doulas, nurses in training, medical students, doctors, mothers and nurturing women are needed! Help our friend Silvia in her effort to improve conditions for impoverished women giving birth in a community hospital in La Ceiba, Honduras. Work includes: providing pre and postnatal care, education and support to these women.

Why you are needed: Presently, there are no prenatal classes in this community, consequently, most women, often as young as 14, do not understand the birthing process. Families are not permitted to be present during labour and delivery, and often the women are treated poorly by local medical staff. These women need emotional support and advocacy.

Teach Kindergarten in El Porvenir

Teach in a kinder/day care  for the children of poor families working in the pineapple fields and packing plants.  A healthy and nutritious meal or snack is served every weekday.  The center also provides supportive childcare for grandmas who are struggling to care for young children. Our international volunteers  work at the kinder providing programs for young children in the morning and enrichment activities for the older kids when they get out of school later in the day.

Teach Kindergarten – Grade 6 in the Jungle

Teach kindergarten through grade 6 in a school situated on a lush mountainside in the jungle. The school currently has 65 students in grades 1-6 and 18 students in kindergarten. It is located in a steep jungle area near the lower Cangrejal River Watershed, called Herradura near the coastal city of La Ceiba. Some of the children attending this school walk two hours each way on slippery trails in extreme heat every day just to have the opportunity to get an education. Most of these children live in remote, isolated areas and face extreme poverty. The families rely mostly on their crops and when the crops do poorly, most struggle to find food. Jungle School provides a lunch each day for the students and for some it is their only meal of the day.
